CM COACHING: KEY INSIGHTS
Coaching. It is probably one of the most misinterpreted words in our vocabulary. People have all sorts of ideas about it: some see it as a form of therapy, others think it's purely about money, and some confuse it with NLP.
So let's first settle on a definition.
While coaching shares some similarities with therapy, its main distinctive features lie in its emphasis on partnership (the coach doesn't provide advice or dictate how to live, but rather facilitates a process of co-creation and solution-finding) and potential (the goal is to tap into your potential through various techniques, ranging from active listening to direct feedback).
Why are we sharing this with you?
Because here at CM Games, coaching has been a key part of our approach for years.
Initially, we set three main goals:
1) find an alternative to mentoring, steering away from hierarchical structures and directive approaches and offering managers more freedom and creativity;
2) support team members in setting ambitious goals—the ones that need some backup to reach;
3) boost the success rate of these ambitious goals. Coaching was the answer to all these challenges.
We were actually so inspired by the results that, after some managers received external training at Erickson International Coaching University and were licensed, we launched an internal coaching program that allows employees to learn, share their skills and find creative solutions together with their teammates.
As Victoria, Associate Producer in our VR department, put it:
Coaching's like having a teammate decoder, helping us sync up with each other's game for smoother teamwork and epic wins!
In future series, we'll delve into some of our favorite coaching cases that may inspire you or at least spark some food for thought.
